Posted on July 27 2023

Will coconut oil stain my sheets? What about my bed? This is a great question that I am sure many people have thought when they are having alone time in the bedroom. Whether its for sex or for a back massage nobody wants to use a liquid that will stain your sheets and bedding and cause a massive headache when its all said and done. In this article we will walk through a few things:

  1. What is Coconut Oil
  2. Will it Stain Your Bedding (Sheets, Pillows, Blankets, etc.)
  3. An Alternative (That will let you use coconut oil!)

Long story short - you can use a waterproof blanket and use any oil you'd like. check out our favorite here.

What is Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a versatile and edible oil derived from the meat or kernel of mature coconuts. It is one of the most popular and widely used oils in the world, known for its numerous health benefits, culinary uses, and applications in beauty and skincare. Commonly it is used for skincare products as it is great at moisturizing and hydrating the skin. Which also means it is a great massage oil - which is why it is commonly used in the bedroom and can come into contact with sheets and pillows. Coconut oil is a very soothing option when it comes to massages which makes its use so common. Another perk is that it smells great!

Will it Stain Your Bedding (Sheets, Pillows, Blankets)

Coconut oil can potentially stain your bedding. Especially when it comes into contact with the many different fabrics that bedding is made out of these days. Flannel, bamboo, cotton you name it blankets and sheets have many different things woven into them these days. Coconut oil is natural as mentioned above but sadly that wont have an impact on it staining. It looks clear and colorless as a liquid but when it strains it will take on a yellowish tint. This is due to it reacting with oxygen. A good rule of thumb is to use a barrier such as a dark colored waterproof blanket to protect everything and fully enjoy whatever you are getting into.

A Happy Alternative

As hinted at above, a barrier or protective layer is going to be your best bet to protect your sheets and bedding. We recommend a waterproof blanket, more specifically one that can cover your entire bed! Our choice is anything from Layered Blankets. If we had to pick we would choose the Accent - it is soft, warm, discreet and amazing at stopping liquids from reaching your bed. It is made out of polyester which is naturally stain resistant. We would say grab a darker color to be safe and then you can use all the oils you want to!

Find the blanket here.

There is no need to change up from your favorite oils when you can simply add in a blanket or protective barrier and continue the fun.
